These people are the actual people.
They politely and congenially greet us and show pleasant interest in befriending us.

The reason you know that these are the real people is because there is something darkly awry with their communique.

What is it that they want from you?
Are they trying to steal your password, enslave you, use your occupied form to sell Macy's cards to all your friends on Myspace?

What will be next?

All people are real, even if they aren't. The act of creating a weird-ass bogus persona is basically a human act, sometimes telling of the persons inner-most hopes and dreams. A gay man who picks up on 14 year old boys by pretending to be a "hot" 14 year old girl is real, they just aren't a 14 year old girl.

I have been having this existential dilemma, for several years now, with the concept of virtual versus "real" experiences. I get so angry when someone prefers to talk to a far away "friend" on their cell-phone over an engaging experience that they can help create with "real" people. I don't know why it bothers me so, and then sometimes I see how stupid it is.

I say this all in a blog (virtual) comment, for a person I have never met (or ever will), who made a really good movie (virtual experience) about "real" experiences.

This modern world has got me all bugaboo.

I am a programmer who gets real money for services I provide to create virtual products (services? I don't know) and then occasionally freaks out and hops trains, to break up the unreality of it.

I remember it all as clearly as any movie, I think.
